2024 couldn't have started better.
Between September 11 and October 4, we harvested organic grapes of the highest quality under ideal conditions, which we will use to produce various amber, orange, and red wines.
After two difficult years, in which we lost almost everything due to drought (2022) and hail (2023) respectively, everything went perfectly this year: we had consistently ideal weather and the vineyard could not be healthier.
Since the grapes were of such outstanding quality, I decided to take advantage of the good situation and push the winery to near maximum capacity.
Grape Harvest 2024
This year's grape harvest started on September 11 with the Saperavi variety. It gets harder every year to find helpers. And so, unfortunately, no one was available early in the morning, which meant we had to start harvesting after lunch. Not ideal, but not too bad given the cool weather. We brought top-quality grapes with a sugar content of 23.3 °Brix (97.8 °Oechsle) into the cellar, where we pressed them into two Qvevris and two steel tanks.
We continued five days later with the Kisi and Khikhvi varieties. Here, too, we were highly impressed by the quality of the grapes. We started at sunrise and brought the grapes into the cellar at 1:00 PM, where we filled two Qvevris with Khikhvi and five Qvevris and one steel tank with Kisi. Sugar content 22.1 °Brix (92.5 °Oechsle) for Khikhvi and 21.7 °Brix (90.6 °Oechsle) for Kisi, respectively.
The Rkatsiteli variety took a little longer this year: almost two weeks after the last harvest, we picked the latecomer with a sugar content of 22.0 °Brix (91.9 °Oechsle). The quality even surpassed that of the varieties harvested earlier.
